Project Engineering Manager – (Remote Opportunity)

 

Gateway Sourcing is assisting in a search for a Project Engineering Manager.  This person must have an in-depth knowledge of agile and scrum frameworks, with all its artifacts and techniques. You will need the ability to coordinate people and projects (occasionally facilitating changes) with your mind set on deliverables. Your role is to provide frameworks for how individuals, and teams, can work together more collaboratively and efficiently. Candidates for this position should be extremely well organized, excellent communicators, demonstrate empathy and understanding for how to resolve different conflicts/obstacles, and enjoy working with different teams and people

The ideal candidate will have a strong history of managing large, high-velocity engineering teams, a positive and proactive attitude, and a strong vision for improving overall engineering/product development efficiencies and output.  This includes working with all stakeholders across the engineering and product teams. The candidate should also be well-versed in agile methodologies with relevant certifications and a track record of organizing large engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the software development team to ensure system, technical, and product teams are aligned with business objectives
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and execution of product backlogs; ensuring scope and schedule are established for products and assignments.
  • Manage each sprint release’s scope and timeline to be fast and efficient
  • Coordinate releases, sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups
  • Coach team members in Agile frameworks
  • Define individual performance objectives and development plans and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Appraise and evaluate team and individual performance.
  • Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration within and between teams
  • Work with the Product team to manage backlogs, new requests, and future sprint/release planning
  • Work with Engineering and QA teams to ensure proper workloads and prioritization
  • Proactively help to resolve conflicts and remove obstacles
  • Help teams implement changes effectively
  • Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint
  • Guide development teams to higher scrum maturity
  • Help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it

 

Requirements

  • 5 years minimum experience in a project management role
  • Degree in Computer Science, Business or similar field
  • Scrum master & Agile certifications
  • A proven track record of successfully managing large engineer teams in start-ups and/or fast growing organizations
  • In-depth knowledge of a continuous release process
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Excellent knowledge of Scrum techniques and artifacts (such as definition of done, user stories, automated testing, backlog refinement)
  • Good knowledge of other Agile frameworks (Crystal, XP etc.)
  • Excellent communication and servant leadership skills
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Previous experience working remotely, or with remote teams, is a plus
