Our client, a company within the manufacturing industry, is seeking a qualified and experienced mid to senior Network Engineer to join their team. The selected candidate will have solid experience as a Network Engineer with Cisco Routers and Switches as well as Firewalls, VOIP. This person will also be a self starter with the ability to work in a team environment. This is a permanent position with full benefits.

LOCATION: The position will be located in Quad Cities, IA area, and reports to the Infrastructure Manager. Relocation assistance is possible.
Who will be successful here?: A “solid” network engineer with strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. This person should be a self-starter, organized and have absolute attention to detail as well. These are “soft” skills but are very important. Network Engineering experience should include companies larger than 200 people, and with multiple locations, to be able to support this corporation’s needs. This is not a junior position, but more of a mid to upper level role.
DESCRIPTION:
The basic function of this position is to serve as a senior technical resource to the network services team. The employee is expected to have a thorough working knowledge of LAN/WAN engineering. He/She will be responsible for reacting to requests from change control, service outages, service requests, and to act as a technical resource to others on the team. He/She will also act as a technical consult to the Director of the team. He/She must be an expert in the internetworking field and have heavy knowledge of Cisco and similar equipment ranging from Switches and Routers to Firewalls. Experience with VOIP including Cisco Voice products is also key. He/she must be able to handle multiple simultaneous projects. Different aspects of project work include but are not limited to analysis of needs, planning, upgrades, implementation, documentation and maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily Operations: Provides first line support of current production systems when failures occur, for main location as well as 5 remote smaller sites.
- Provide on-the-spot recommendations for fixes to bring our WAN/LAN/WLAN production components back on-line quickly and efficiently; implement changes aligned with the change process.
- Keep Network Support Center Management abreast of any and all network performance or management issues that require high-level attention
- Respond to any/all service tickets as a second and third line of support for escalated tickets. Instruct and train Service Desk in improving delivery.
- Identify and work with the team in problem management to resolve any issues.
- Modeling; Advise in pre-studies on technical and architectural work.
- Perform network maintenance
- Project Management; provide guidance and requirements for new or upgrade network projects. Lead and supplement technical activities related to network programming.
- Router implementation and configuration
- Firewall implementation and configuration
- Vendor Management: including cable installers, WAN carriers, network equipment suppliers, and network consultants.
- Run operational meetings.
- Work with improving provided services.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years total business experience
- 3-5 years as a Network Engineer in a mid to large company environment, with high availability, business critical enterprise networks
- Professional experience with managing LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, Firewalls
Experience with VOIP and preferably Cisco voice products specifically. - Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Must have strong analytical skills and a firm understanding of business concepts
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Must have heavy network “hands on” technical experience (LAN/WAN/Routers)
- Must have strong knowledge of Cisco routers and switches
PREFERRED:
- Certifications such as CCNA and CCNP are a plus
- Experience with global networks in central and decentralized environment is also a plus
- Vendor management experience is preferred
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
- ITIL Training and certification
- Certified network training
