Gateway Sourcing is assisting a client in search of an experienced Marketing and Communications professional.  This is a high profile position working in downtown Mobile, AL interfacing with local businesses, government and hospitality industries.  This person must be well versed in all forms of marketing and promotions including data analytics, social media, digital media, as well as traditional print and conference and tradeshow presence.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Tourism, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, or destination marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven success in developing and executing marketing strategies, media relations, and brand management.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing tools, analytics, content marketing, and emerging trends.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in project management, budgeting, and cross-functional team leadership.
  • Passion for travel, tourism, and community engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Support the marketing and communications strategy to drive visitation, increase economic impact, and grow brand awareness. (together with Vice President of Marketing & Communications)
  • Oversee brand development and consistency across all touchpoints and campaigns.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to the marketing and communications team.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, goals, and culture.

Marketing Execution

  • Together with the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, execute content strategy, advertising campaigns, social media, email marketing, including website and SEO.
  • Manage the annual media budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and ROI-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with agency partners and in-house team members to produce high-impact campaigns and storytelling.
  • Collaboration with the Convention & Meetings sales team for brand cohesion and sales-focused marketing strategies

Public Relations & Communications

  • Support and manage all media relations, crisis communications, and press initiatives.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with local, regional, and national media and influencers.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of press releases, newsletters, speeches, and official communications.
  • Represent the organization at public events, industry conferences, and with community stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with tourism partners, local businesses, and government entities to align messaging and promote the region collaboratively.
  • Provide marketing support and resources to stakeholders to amplify destination messaging.
  • Develop cooperative marketing programs and partnership initiatives.
  • Develop a localized newsletter designed to provide industry insights and Destination Marketing Organization updates to stakeholders

Team & Budget Management

  • Direct and support a high-performing marketing and communications team, fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Together with the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, oversee vendor relationships, including creative agencies, PR firms, digital marketing agencies, and photographers/videographers.
  • Track budget expenditures, provide regular reporting, and evaluate campaign performance.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a Destination Marketing Organization, Convention and Visitors Bureau, or tourism-related organization.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Simpleview, Google Analytics, social media scheduling tools, and CMS/CRM systems.

Location / Travel:

  • Offices located on the waterfront in Downtown Mobile.  On site position (no remote).  Overnight travel is about 10%.
