Network Engineer

Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Network Engineer to join their team. The selected candidate will have solid experience as a Network Engineer with Cisco routers and switches as well as firewalls. This person will also be a self starter with the ability to work in a team environment. This is a permanent position.

Job Description:

The basic function of this position is to serve as a senior technical resource to the network services team. The employee is expected to have a

Strong background (CCNP level) in Cisco routing and switching
Strong background troubleshooting in a zero-downtime network environment
Extensive knowledge of networking protocol fundamentals and inner workings, especially OSI layers 2-4
Strong experience with OSPF including design, implementation, and operation as well as a firm understanding of metric types, behaviors, and route preference tuning

Responsibilities:

Provides first line support of current production systems when failures occur
Provide on-the-spot recommendations for fixes to bring our WAN/LAN production components back on-line quickly and efficiently
Router implementation and configuration
Firewall implementation and configuration
Keep Network Support Center Management abreast of any and all network performance or management issues that require high-level attention
Respond to any/all service tickets
Work with the engineering team to resolve any issues
Maintaining and configuring on wireless
Keep network documentation up to date
Modeling
Perform network maintenance
Do project work

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
3-5 years as a network engineer in a network corporate environment
Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
Must have strong analytical skills and a firm understanding of business concepts
Strong interpersonal skills
Must have strong knowledge of Cisco routers and switches
Solid experience with Cisco ASA firewalls, including: NAT, Access lists, and VPN
OSI layers 2-4
OSPF, or strong EIGRP experience would also qualify, but network runs on OSPF
Experience with BGP, including the use of route-maps for policy based routing decisions
Switching experience with VLANS, voice VLANS, LACP, and spanning tree
Firm understanding of WiFi principles
Network monitoring and performance analysis
Solid skills in IP address management and allocation planning
Network security best practices
Basic knowledge of IP multicast fundamentals including PIM sparse mode / IGMP snooping

Desired Experience: (Big plus but not absolutely required)

Cisco VSS and Stackwise
Wireshark or other packet-level analysis tools
Aruba
iBoss appliances PRTG
IPv6
IP Telephony experience
Certifications such as CCNA and CCNP

Location: Mobile, Alabama

Compensation: Salary $70K + commensurate with experience and includes full benefits
