We have a client with a potential Geotechnical Engineering contract position. The commencement of this position is dependent upon the severity of damage and federal declaration as a FEMA sponsored catastrophe.
This position likely pays from $45-$60 / hour + overtime, per diem for food and lodging, and appropriate travel expenses.
The Location: The location for the role is in the Pacific Northwest. Candidates may come from anywhere in the United States, but must be willing to travel to as directed by FEMA operations. As the scope of the project is currently undetermined, the projected minimum duration of the contract is 3-6 months.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate potential projects and development of Project Worksheets (PWs) to include project formulation, development of scopes of work and cost estimates for repair or replacement of infrastructure, and validation of program eligibility.
- Technical requirements include damage site visits to identify and assess damages and conduct geotechnical analyses and/or surveys of damaged slopes for stabilizing and repairing integral ground, and the facilities damaged or at risk due to slope failures and land movement.
- Extensive geotechnical engineering experience evaluating landslides and mudslides;
- Experience conducting geotechnical evaluations and/or studies of these types of soils and failed slopes;
- Experience preparing repair or construction projects in these types of soils, both pre- and post-stabilization, including determining feasibility and least cost method of repair;
- Constructing or repairing below-ground sewer or fresh water facilities located in at-risk, unstable, or potentially unstable soils;
- Knowledge and experience applying FEMA Recovery’s Landslide Policy and PA Program eligibility to PA projects associated with landslides and mudslides.
Candidates will undergo FEMA University training and deployed as necessary.
Requirements Include:
- Bachelors degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Structure or relevant engineering discipline
- Must be a US Citizen
- 3+ years of relevant geotechnical experience
- Must be willing to undergo and successfully pass a comprehensive FBI background screening. The screening includes, but is not limited to: credit record, criminal record, and tax history. Criminal felonies, misdemeanors, DUI/DWIs, excessive debt or bankruptcy, tax or other financial evasion (student loan, child support, etc.) are factors that could result in an individual being deemed “unsuitable” for an assignment.
- Must have a valid US driver’s license
- Must have a credit card with a credit limit that allows for the ability to rent a hotel room and a car for at least one month (if individual is not local to the assignment area).
- Must be able to travel and mobilize on short notice
- Must be computer literate and at least proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel programs
- Must be flexible in a dynamic and challenging work environment
- Must be able to honor an initial commitment of 60 – 90 days.
- At least 25 years old.
Travel Expectations: up to 100%
Compensation: The position likely pays from $45 – $60 / hour + overtime, per diem for food and lodging, and appropriate travel expenses.
