We have a client with a potential Fisheries Biologist contract position. The commencement of this position is dependent upon the severity of damage and federal declaration as a FEMA sponsored catastrophe.
This position likely pays from $45-$60 / hour + overtime, per diem for food and lodging, and appropriate travel expenses.
The Location: The location for the role is in the Pacific Northwest. Candidates may come from anywhere in the United States, but must be willing to travel to as directed by FEMA operations. As the scope of the project is currently undetermined, the projected minimum duration of the contract is 3-6 months.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate proposed Public Assistance Program repair projects for the projects’ effects on federally listed species and their habitat, as required under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) under Section 305(b)(2) of the Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA).
Requirements Include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology or relevant life science discipline.
- Must be a US Citizen
- 3+ years of relevant biological assessments, recommendations, and executions
- Experience writing (multiple) biological assessments and EFH assessments, and have completed informal or formal consultations with federal regulatory agencies under ESA;
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the aquatic resources (preferably in Oregon or the Pacific Northwest);
- Demonstrated skills and experience in evaluating effects of PA repair projects on endangered species, critical habitat, and EFH; availability to conduct field visits in order to evaluate impacts of PA projects upon listed species and their habitat, and ensure FEMA’s compliance with federal regulations.
- Must be willing to undergo and successfully pass a comprehensive FBI background screening. The screening includes, but is not limited to: credit record, criminal record, and tax history. Criminal felonies, misdemeanors, DUI/DWIs, excessive debt or bankruptcy, tax or other financial evasion (student loan, child support, etc.) are factors that could result in an individual being deemed “unsuitable” for an assignment.
- Must have a valid US driver’s license
- Must have a credit card with a credit limit that allows for the ability to rent a hotel room and a car for at least one month (if individual is not local to the assignment area).
- Must be able to travel and mobilize on short notice
- Must be computer literate and at least proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel programs
- Must be flexible in a dynamic and challenging work environment
- Must be able to honor an initial commitment of 60 – 90 days.
- At least 25 years old.
- Candidates will undergo FEMA University training and deployed as necessary.
Travel Expectations: up to 100%
