Responsibilities:
The individual in this role has overall responsibility for the fundamental science and technology for the development and implementation of analytical methods and measurements for the commercial manufacturing process in the Chemicals business segment. This individual has responsibility for technical leadership for laboratory team members and will have opportunity to lead analytical projects/programs to drive value to the business. This role offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to shape and drive the measurement of critical process parameters under consideration for primarily intermediates and products at their Houston area facility.
This is a strategic role with technical advisory responsibilities. The individual in this position will need to be an excellent team player and a strong communicator who is willing to take charge and lead groups of people from multiple reporting lines in different business units across the plant site. This position requires the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A strong analytical mind, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative team culture is highly desirable.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Work with a team of analytical chemists, process chemists, and scientists to advance the current understanding of analytical methods and techniques available to solve business critical problems.
- Envision, lead, and articulate the “entitlement” for process measurement in terms of performance value for new as well as existing products.
- Work with third-party research and commercial groups to develop new approaches for process measurements for on-line, at-line or off-line systems.
- Communicate the “opportunities” vision to a wide audience at multiple levels to gain buy-in and execution.
- Manage a project portfolio in collaboration with the technology and manufacturing teams at the plant site to develop new measurements and/or improve existing measurements.
- Lead and conduct characterization of process material anomalies, interpretation of analytical results and generation of technical reports.
- Technical resource for strategic programs/projects to optimize performance in the operational areas and laboratory operations.
Requirements
- PhD. in Analytical Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with a strong emphasis in process measurements and analytical sciences.
- 5+ years of experience in process analyses and measurement, or applications development of measurement with a focus on chromatography and spectroscopy systems as a chemist.
- Experience should include working with technology and manufacturing teams or application development teams, as well as in a chemicals manufacturing environment or R&D environment
- Proven track record of process measurement and applications development, project management, analytical method development and optimization.
