Support for the HR Professional

I have been a member, and served on the board, of our local Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter for nearly 7 years. If you are an HR professional you likely know this organization. They have local chapters with a national and global presence. They also offer professional development and certifications for continued education.

Membership to the National SHRM Organization will provide you with current legislative news as it relates to federal employment laws and is a great resource to any HR professional or executive leader. If you are fortunate as I am in your community, we have a dynamic chapter that has monthly lunch meetings featuring a guest speaker of HR relevance. I think the key to a successful organization is to have topics relative to issues the local HR population is facing. It may have to do with employee documentation, EEOC, FMLA, organized labor, or any number of topics. This is a great group to network with to find out how your peers are handling situations, and resources / vendors that other companies use.
